Ajuga reptans 'Chocolate Chip' - Bugleweed

Like it's brethren the Bronze Beauty Ajuga, Chocolate Chip has a mix of light and dark foliage, the larger portion of which is a dark purple (some see as brown, hence the name). But the foliage is very narrow and is not wrinkled. It spreads via stolons, and has a similar bloom. The bloom stem stands 3"-5" over the foliage, and blue-violet flowers are packed a little more loosely on the stem than with other cultivars. Blooms begin in mid-May and last approximately 2 weeks. Some claim this species is invasive, but I rather enjoy the look when Ajuga spreads through a bed, and I find it easily maintained in a particular area.
