| This is one of my favorite groundcovers because it does so much with color, yet is happy to simply be a complimentary plant to the other bright blooms in your garden. The glossy foliage rarely gets more than 2" tall, and offers some deep purples and green in foliage color. Flower stems appear in early to mid-spring and extend 6-8" above ground. The blooming stem is made from many blue-violet, 4-lobed, flat flowers. Ajuga will occasionally bloom again in late summer, and dead-heading may help. In some of my references it's listed as tolerant of full shade or full sun, but I've found it really struggles with much sun exposure. |
