| "...if you want your landscape to have that third dimensional, outer space feeling, plant a couple hundred Skyrockets..." (Dirr, Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, 1990) - I just about fell over laughing when I read this. True, the Skyrocket Juniper is one of the most narrow of columnar junipers with a dense growing habit, but I've seen it used well when placed on midwestern properties that have mediterranean influences in their architecture and gardens, or in situations where horizontal space is at a premium and a vertical element is needed. It's blue-gray scale-like foliage provides color interest in all seasons, and it's cold hardy to Zone 4. It's dense nature makes it a logical choice for small birds and other wildlife.
