Potentilla fruticosa 'Abbotswood' - Abbotswood Potentilla

Considered one of the better white-blooming Potentillas, this cultivar will reach 3-4' in height and in spread. Foliage is a darker green to bluish-green which offers grand contrast with the bright white of the flowers. Those flowers will bloom in summer and last well into the late summer and fall. When the foliage and flower color show is over in mid to late fall, foliage will turn brown and drop. In time this plant can begin to look a bit messy with the dieback of some stems, leaving sections of the plant with nothing but brown twigs. When this occurs, this shrub can be put back into shape by doing a hard renovation pruning, either removing a large number of stems completely, or cutting back the entire plant to within 3-6" of the ground. This should be done between late fall and early spring.
