Pinus nigra - Austrian Pine

This conifer is a great selection when a design calls for filtered screening; the Austrian Pine is less dense than a Spruce or Fir, yet it's large presence makes it unmistakable as a screen. Needles are a medium to dark green, 2-5" in length. As it grows, the Austrian can get a bit leggy and asymmetrical. Used in gardens for forced-perspective, the needle size can be used as an advantage in making long distances seem shorter.
