Landscape Design

Are you a landscape design professional who’s looking for information about how to better create your designs? Are you a garden enthusiast that’s just looking for some landscape design ideas? If so, our site might be for you. Our site, the Ground Trades Xchange, is an online community of people in the landscaping industry. We have people participating on our site from across the landscape industry spectrum: landscape architects and designers, landscape contractors, production managers, foreman, growers and educators. We even have editors from landscape industry magazines participating. If you have questions about a particular landscape design element and are a registered member, you can simply start a discussion about the topic, and others from across the US and the world will give their input.

Landscape Design Forum

Our site is broken into many forum categories, including landscape design, hardscapes, softscapes, management, etc. You can either participate in just those forum discussions having to with landscape design, or you can take part in any other forum topic that you have interest or expertise in (or even if you don’t, but want to learn more). The online discussions can range from creating a color rendering, to how to go about selling your landscaping plans, to how to best present your design. If you’re a garden enthusiast but don’t earn a living in the landscape design field, you can still benefit from looking over the various forum discussions. There’s always something new to learn, no matter if you’re a novice or an expert! And if you’re a homeowner looking for landscaping ideas, you might also benefit from looking through the discussions (though we’ll be honest – this site is designed specifically for people in the landscaping industry).

Landscape Design Software

If you’re reading this web page, you are aware of and probably make use of the massive amount of technology that’s been placed right at our fingertips via the world wide web and other sources. The landscaping industry has leapt into this technological world with both feet. Though we do not sell any landscape software, many of our members are well versed in all of the different design software packages available, from Eagle Point and Design Imaging Group, to Turbo CAD and Dynascape. While the free landscape software packages are nice for homeowners looking to design a few beds in their backyard, they really aren’t the tools of the professional. If you are considering the purchase of a professional design package, you can probably find some reviews of the software on our site. If not, you can always start your own discussion about the topic and see what others who use the software think.

Landscape Design Services

This is always a topic of hot debate for people in the industry. More specifically, whether or not you charge for your landscape design service and how much you charge are often discussed. There are some that earn a living solely by designing landscapes – either as a stand-alone designer, or working for a landscape contractor or architecture firm. Others give their designs away in the hopes that it will impress the client and land you the contract. If you’re struggling with this issue, or if you’re a homeowner, also struggling with this issue (but from a different perspective), you might benefit from viewing some of the discussions. As a person who offers a professional design service, you might see how offering free designs might actually hurt your chances of landing a contract, and at the same time, see how those who charge for their design service can occasionally price themselves out of the market..

Thanks for visiting.  I do hope you'll look over some of the discussions we've had on our site, and that you'll feel comfortable enough after looking around that you decide to register as a member.  Registration is free, and we will never share any of your personal information with anyone.  Not even with other members of the site, if that's what you'd prefer.
