At the very least I can say we are ready now! We spent all day Friday and all day Saturday preparing for what was predicted to be the first major storm of the season.

Yesterday I finalized with all the drivers all the details on the routes.

Made my way home at about 8pm and monitored the weather about every hour till midnight. Woke up at 1:30a...they still were predicting 3-5 inches...yet it was raining. Woke up at 2:45a..radar shows snow 40 miles to the west..still raining. Woke up at 4:00 still raining..forecast says 2-4 inches for our area. Woke up at 5am..forecast says 2 inches...still raining.

well.....I thinks it's safe to sleep to about 7:00. I set the alarm once again and wake up at 7. Look out the window and low and behold it's actually snowing. The grass is starting to be covered. Go look at the radar to find that this is the tail end of the storm that's heading for Minneapolis and WI. Forecast is now partly cloudy with no additional precipitation.

The rest of the morning was spent answering the 9 calls from drivers asking "What happened to the snow?" And each and every one of them tells me how good they slept last night.

I have finally figured out what I hate about snow! Obviously it's not the actual snow or even the process of plowing snow.

Hope you guys up toward MN and WI are making out alright!

Here @ the top of New Jersey it's actually kind of warm. Enough were you don't need a jacket. but still, were is winter, the holidays are just better when it's colder.

We had some heavy (rain) storms very early in the morning in the Eastern part of WI, and it's been misting and drizzling the rest of the day. No snow yet, but I'm kinda hoping.

This reminds me that I better go try and find out where I left my plow at the end of last winter.......I think its somewhere out there in the field......I just need to remember where! I hope the ground freezes soon too.......as I recall, its always muddy back there and I got stuck last season.

LOL I've been waiting for a good freeze so I can haul my spreaders & plows out of the back yard. I finally got the lawn nice there after some construction damage, and I'd hate to have to rut it up again.

Nebraska,
That sounds like about 20 or so of my nights each winter. I live close enough to the ocean that the rain\snow line is never easily predicted...

I'm near that same oceanic region too. Sparta has a very hi elevation and we get more snow than just about everybody else in New Jersey.

20 or so nights! That would drive me insane.... That happens to us about 4-5 times a winter.

It really stinks when you have to go somewhere that doesn't have snow and you can't even get out of your own driveway hwile everyone at the party is outside on the deck. Really wierd.

I remember one time were it didn't even flurry in the middle of town but it snowed 7 inches were I was. Not a single plow truck came by because nobody thought it had snowed at all by me. I was stuck for about 2 hours until one came by.

I did my first plowing of the season today. Didn't do the full route but just the places where clients demand clear pavement at all times.

He's up here in Ontario. I'm further south of him and although they predicted 2-6cm accumulation, all we got was rain. Good thing, 'cause my new Dodge doesn't get outfitted w/plow+salter until tomorrow.

I would have been plowing solo in my new GMC!

Does anyone use the Boss or Hiniker plows? The Hiniker plow can push like a regular plow and when put in reverse it folds down to pull leftover snow back so that next pass it gets everything. It saves passes and time.

Not bad huh. Don't know how much they are but they really do work, I know someone who has one. Out here there are alot of long driveways. It just makes the job easier.

We didn't get very much. It was about 1" but some places just have to be totally clear. I was out again this morning to clear about 2". Any place that was salted yesterday didn't even need to be done today because the snow didn't stick.
