We've had 36 hours of off and on freezing raining and sleet.... now we're being targeted for what is 9 to a possible 18 inches!

Tough one considering it's the first one of the season.... what ever happened to breaking in the new guys in the late fall with a two inch snowfall?? These are the same types of storms we had last year.

Back on the 22nd/23rd of December we were hit with a similar storm...our first one for this winter. 12" of heavy, wet snow, then a layer of freezing rain and ice pellets over top. Every piece of equipment I have broke down at least once, and compared to other contractors I got off easy!

Looks like a similar mixed bag of crap heading our way again. Oh joy. Snowplowing is a success IF you don't break down, don't get into any accidents, don't lose any customers, and make a profit when the storm is done. Unfortunately it's rare when all of those things happen together...especially in storms like the one you're talking about! Can you tell how much I love plowing?

On those rare occasions when 4" of light powder falls on a Saturday (so most places are closed the next day), and we can start plowing by midnight, and have no breakdowns...I can just enjoy it.

I'll probably never get out of plowing entirely since I'm primarily a maintenance contractor, but I would like to do less of it than I do now.

We started at 3:00am 1/3.... Just finished up the final round 1/6 with a total of 14.4 inches of snow....not including the two days of ice. 12 hours of sleep in the last 96 hours. I've got a crew going out in the morning for some final odds and ends.....

This was the biggest storm that I have seen in this area (last year we had one that .6 inches less); three more inches and it would have broken the all time record snowstorml total. The good thing was it was cold (-2 last night) and thus the snow was dry and fluffy. Only have a list of about 15 minor repairs that need to be made in the next couple of days.

We got a snow/ice pellet/rain mix. Not much accumulation. Went pre-salting overnight, then plowed during the day. Some cleanup (i.e. scrape/salt) last night. Not too bad a storm really. Nothing like what you got.

Steel cutting edge on my brand new Bobcat snapped off at the corner like a cookie. Almost like it was cast metal or something. Never had a plow edge break off before. They're gonna warrantee it of course.
