Home Depot Do-It-Yourself snowplows

I was at Home Depot today buying some supplies for the basement finishing and noticed a video playing. It appears that for $999, Home Depot will sell you a residential model snowplow for your pickup. It rolls on brackets with casters around the garage for easy installation and removal. Looked pretty light duty.

Can raise and lower it with a wired remote hanging on the driver's side window. But angling the blade is a manual adjustment. As I watched I hear the the announcer say - "Now you don't have to wait for your contractor to clear your driveway so you can get out."

But $999 would buy a lot of snowplowing, not to mention you'd have to have a truck to mount it to as well.

Anybody worried about this development?

No not at all. Especially scince not only do I not plow but Home-Depot doesn't sell "highest Quality" stuff. The homeowner grade thing is sure to break in the first five uses. Not worried. I don't think anyone else should be either.

Snowbear or Snowolf. Been out for about 15 years.

Little winch raises it up, manual angle.

Been around for years. Works fine for very light duty use but the poor home owner gets a little more cocky with it each time until he decides he can ram that snow bank and mave it back 5' and that little plow just folds up like an accordian.

I never could figure out why home owners will spend that kind of money on snow equipment (a good blower here starts at over $1000) when you can get the plow guy to do it for less money (when you count machine maintenance, fuel, replacement cost and lost interest on investment) , and the homeowner dosn't even have to get cold.

I lease one truck to a local municipality and while out on a run once I saw one of those plows stuck in a snow bank, frame and all. It had pulled right off the truck! The owner just left it where it layed for junk.
