Nebraska is on a distinguished road
Sunday began what I am convinced is the new ice age. We received 15" (1.25" of moisture) of snow starting Sunday 1/25 and ending 3:00am 1/27. Now the highs are 0. O! Zero is nothing !!!meaning that there exist no warmth what-so-ever.

This ended up being the most snow that our area has seen since 1987 (when I was 16)...

We went through all kinds of temp labor....I learned a lot on how to handle future storms of this magnitude combined with the temperature... In the future we are going to run 6 hour shifts with the temp labor and 12 hour shifts with the drivers. Looking back we really were rather brutal to all the drivers and the temp laborers....considering the conditions.

I have had 15 hours of sleep since 9am 1/25....just got back from moving snow with skid steers to make room for what the weather forcasters are saying is a similar storm coming Sunday - Monday....Will be out again starting at 7 am working on more properties moving snow.

Is anyone else noticing a strange trend in the storms this year or is it just my area.....normally we'll have one storm during the season of about 9-10 inches, two of no more than 5 inches, and the rest about 1-3... This season so far we have had on 7 inch storm, one 5 inch storm, and one 1-2...then this one comes....

Loving it though, making out with good cash .

Listened to lots of talk radio! Neal Bortz, Michael Savage, and Coast to Coast... even influencing some of our drivers.... Live Free or Die!

Also am finding out which of our guys are mechanically inclined and which are a waste of time behind a wrench in a pinch.

Another issue that's come up while talking to another contractor that's been around for 20+ years is that winter's like this cause a lot of the landscape and lawn care contractors to become complacent in their spring marketing efforts.... If he is correct we have plans to work that to our advantage. Anyone else notice a similar trend....a little money in the bank driving complacency?

I get to talk to contractors all over the country every day. Thats my job. Don't feel too bad Nebraska, a guy in MN just got 22" over night! He woke up he next day to 30 mph winds to add insult to injury.

We have really been blessed here. Seems that it has been skipping over us for the most part. Had 5" 2 days ago, and will get 3" more tonight. -4 actual here today. Wind chills are supposed to hit -20 tonight. Still much better than what the poor cnuks are getting in Northern Quebec & New Foundland -40!

Montana, your weather has really been weird this year. Warm cold, warm cold, and very little snow. I know several contractors that are still pouring up there. Lots of work and expanding going on up there from what I've been told.

One suggestion for keeping your employee's moral up in this @#*&% time of year. My girlfriend, my mother, or my sister in law make the guys a big ol pot of chili and keep it on a burner at the office all day. The workers just fill up their thermos's before they leave, or when they stop back for something. Doesn't cost much. and warm, full bellies helps keep the whining down big time. Just a thought for you guys & gals out fighting the elements. Tim

Your not kidding night time temps have been below or close to zero for 3 weeks. Hit negative 20 14 days ago. Haven't seen the thermometer above 22 degrees in a long time. Current temp. of 7.

Can't complain to much though snowplowing has been pretty good.

This is absolutely amazing! There is another storm of 10-12 inches aimed directly at us for Saturday night through Monday. There is also talk in our area of another storm of this magnitude for Wed... If it all comes to fruition the totals from these three storms would be greater than even our yearly average. We average 28 - 30 inches a year... right now we are at 27...for some that may seem little....for us we are used to about 10 events averaging 2-3 inches on each snow / storm.
We are just now finishing up moving all the snow on our lots to make room for future events.

At the very least it's making a huge dent in the drought that we are / were under.

Same storm coming as Nebraska's here. We have been down graded to about 6" instead of 12" now. Woke up to freezing rain here today. Lots of accidents on I-80. Stay away from Iowa for awhile if you can. I know that will be hard to do with all of our Winter tourist attractions! LOL Tim

That is unfortunate Nebraska. I will be flying OUT of Orlando on the 23rd on flight 740! It would of have been nice to meet you. My trade show gets over there on 2/20.

You should check out a place to eat called the Bahama Breeze. It is located on the same road, and real close to the convention center. I think the road is either Orlando Blvd, or Convention Center Drive, I can't remember the name. Awesome food, and decent prices! If you are a hops & barley connoisseur, try their own micro-brew called Aruba Red. It is kind of like Killian's, but better!

If you sit through a lengthy sales presentation at the Westgate Lake Estates, they will give you comp tickets to different tourist traps, & a free meal. We have a 3 bedroom timeshare there. If you end up buying one, let them know I referred ya, and definitely ask for a Repo - it will save you a ton. Very, very nice place!

Well maybe next time! Till then, we will just have to freeze, and push around that white crap!!!!

27 inches of total snow cover (all within 11-12 days) and adding to it by the minute.. We just surpassed the all time record for snow cover in our area!
