Many good posts here.

1 Make sure cash flow is there. Making money is and not getting paid when you need it is like not making money at all.

More later

1 Do whatever it takes to find really good employees.
2 Don't skimp on equipment ( but make sure you can afford the payments).
3 Do your best work on every job.
4 Network with the right people so you get the good leads.

If life begins at 40 I'll be born next August.

I agree with everbody on the point of keeping your labor down and invest
in equipment. 2 to 3 laborers and me and my dad running equipment we get an awfull lot acomplished. Pay roll taxes alone wipe you out. We don't nedd alot to keep busy.

I actually just found this particular thread today. Anyhow, if anyone's still following it...

If I had a "do-over" I would:

- have thought twice about starting a partnership instead of a sole-proprietorship

- sought out an accountant (by referral) from day one - or even prior to day one

- began using Quickbooks (or a similar accounting program) from the start

- joined a professional assoc. sooner

- surfed this forum (oh, yeah none of these forums, or the internet even existed then)
