Checking a new hire's driving record

How do you make sure a person who I am hiring has a clean or decent driving record? What online services are there to do this or who can I check with?

In Ontario have the driver supply you with their drivers abstract which they can obtain from the MTO. It gives a complete record of their driving.

If it's the US, as GLAN mentioned, just give your agent a call and tell him the applicant's driver's license info. In Wisconsin there's a website where you can just run a check if you have their name - nothing else needed. Works great for me - both for potential hires, and keeping tabs on current employees (wink to a former employee that's a member here ).

You will have to have the applicant sign a authorization for the insurance company to do the check. Should be no cost to you for the check.

I have a private investigator run a background check as well, since we work around schools, and public facilities.
