There's all types of bid engines ( that's how I've seen them advertised ) that will allow you to register and see jobs that are being put out to bid from various companies. When we were in search of more commercial work, we monitored these sites ( or our e-mail ) to see which jobs we would like to bid on.
One in my area has several locations where you can go and actually buy a set of plans and do your takeoff from them. For instance, we see a new college campus that has the landscaping specs on it and we just bid on that section. An electrical company will just purchase the electrical section of the plans and so on.
The federal govt. also puts certain jobs out to bid online as well as regional and local construction companies.
Since we were mostly residential design / build, our bids must have been too high to compete with the cut throat art of securing commercial bids on a consistent basis.
Final tally:
All other bidders: 23
Fine Edge: 0
Needless to say, it just wasn't our ball of wax.
Google bid engines and see what you find in your area.
