Pool Fountain

We have been asked to build a waterfall into an existing in ground pool. This would be the first for us and I was hoping to get some pointers. We have two options for tapping into the return lines of the pool, one being at the pump and the other being to catch a line at the side of the pool. The pump is about 40' from where the feature is supposed to go. This waterfall will be about 5' wide and about 4 feet off of the water surface. I am not sure if I want to have a regulator at the fall itself or have it contained at the pump. Any feedback would be welcome.

There was a very recent thread on this same topic here on GTX. Trees provided an awesome water fall into a pool, and I believe John Palasek did a very nice one last year.

I can't get the images downsized enough as of yet to get them on the site but if you go to the last page of my website there is a waterfall pool to view.

Doing a fall after the fact is going to be a little more tricky than when the pool is already under construction. I lile using a dedicated pump for the water falls that you can divert water back into the pool with via a return line, and we "T" into a suction line to feed water to the pump. If you are unsure of what the pool was made of, you will want to take the load off the pools edge by using a free standing system like a footing and then minimizing the weight on the edge. If you are sure you have ashot crete pool rather than gunite, or if the gunite edge is alot thicker than normal, then you should be safe to load the edge with more water fall effects.

Trees explaination (forgive me if I got the members name wrong who submitted those awesome photos) had a greatly detailed explaination as to how, what, etc and should be able to help you out.

Hi Bill and everyone one else

Are you still having problems resizing photos?

I would assume that you have a computer with windows of some version. Microsoft has a really good program called Microsoft Photo Editor. I use it and adobe. MPE is quick simple and gets things done. I like to correct colors with it and then hit a photo with adobe.

MPE should come with every version of windows. The newer versions XP and possibly down to windows 2000 have mpe but have it "hidden". You can find out more about MPE and how to get it working by going to Google and entering "micro soft photo editor". There are several articles that give you the steps to reinstalling it and making it the default editor.

Baring that, I believe every version of windows has a photo editor by Kodak.
To accesss it, click on start> programs > accessories and imaging

I wish you guys would include some more photos. A picture is worth a thousand words and helps people better understand the problem you are dealing with.

Resizing is very important. The larger the photo, the longer it takes to load. A little experimentation works wonders.
Take a photo and make it in 4 sizes, upload it to where ever and see how long it takes to load and the picture quality. From there you will know what works best.
