Need license????

Hey,
I have a small landscape business registered here in NJ, but I've recently been told that now landscapers need a license other than pesticides and irrigation, I've checked the NJ official web site and it just said registration was needed. I don't know if it hasn't been updated yet or what...... anybody hear anything??

This is news to me, I am in several NJ organizations. Last I heard they were planning on it (for years now).

PLANET, NJNLA and the NJ.gov sites all have no mention of new requirements.

If you install hardscapes, plant trees & shrubs, irrigation, etc, you need to register as a home improvement contractor.

Wow, I was not aware of this coming into effect at all. Thanks for the heads up.

And damn another $90 to the state for "fees".

EDEN, I was right on about NJ Reg's for landscaper. For all you companies out there that might think this is a waste of money think about all those companies that are not for real and not insured. This will weed out all the fly by night guy's.

I am all for that, but I wonder how they are going to enforce it. Only thing I ever see enforced is the INS stuff.

Geensmith, It will be a yearly fee. Times have changed, wood decks are out and we are in, Townships, County,Cities want the fee's for permits and will enforce more our work(sucks). I built a 5' retaining wall and was busted for no permit or engineered specs for the wall. If we have to pull permits for every wall over 4' we will need the License # for that permit. Do not forget TAXES to track us. Good Luck With The Season$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This is a silly question but no license is required for lawncutting right? Other than just registering your business name? Im new in thr business end of things.
This is just for hardscaping and permanent structures? What about mulch?

1 more question: Other than the registration above what else in NJ do you need for installing garden walls and under a certain height do you need a licenase, permits, etc,..?

gwarren,
As far as just lawn cutting, mulch and mantainence, you dont need a license, now with the new law you may need one, even to install a small garden wall they're saying you might need a permit because it falls under the home improvement contractor, and the permit issue is going to vary from township to township. And any wall 4' + is supposed to have an engineer design it and stamped.
