quantity of water for new trees?

Yesterday we put in a dozen 2.5" maples for a few clients and they look super. I explained watering was to be done twice weekly for 20 mins per tree and one of the clients calls back and asks what quantity of water should she use if the water is going to be dripping out of old milk jugs - im not certain and thought I would ask you all for your suggestions.

i would set 3 per tree with one small hole per container once or twice a week. This time of year evaporation really isnt much of a concern so i think the moisture will stay there for a while, especially drip irrigating like that
