Turtle Gardens

Maybe this should be in the "hardscape" section?

I am going to a turtle garden seminar/workshop on Thursday.

It actually should be a very interesting day. It is actually environmental mitigation that is the reason for me to attend. It is about habitat enhancement for rare turtles in order to help them keep on keeping on. It will focus on Diamond Back Terapin turtles, but will also cover some others that are of concern in my area.

If you wonder who the heck wants to pay someone to design these, the answer is that in some areas you have to make up for your development near sensitive areas by enhancing other areas of your property or off-site. Regulatory boards are insisting on mitigation and in some cases they are quite specific.

You may want to pay a lot of attention to what is going on in your areas and look for some of these niche opprtunities. You probably won't be able to make a living just on one niche, but if you have some training and an awareness of these little niche needs, you might not have a whole lot of competition in these areas. If the property owner wants to build, he needs a qualified person to design, present, and/or install or there are no permits issued.

.... something to think about in a slow economy.
