The details of this potential project aren't that important, other than to say they've made themselves a lawn disaster.
What I'm wondering is, for those who've done artificial turf (pitching greens, putting greens, etc) where you had to do seaming, how much work does the seaming add to the project in terms of hours per X feet of seam?
Okay, here's some of the disaster details:
- They bought the turf themselves as a replacement for their lawn because they couldn't get relatives to cut it for them (mom and daughter, neither in any shape to mow). Spent 5k on the artificial turf.
- Spent $1.2k on weed fabric from the local big box. Junk fabric.
- Hired an employee of a guy who works for a guy to do the job. He screwed up the base prep. This is why I'm even involved. We'd be removing the $1.2K in pre-purchased, 3' wide rolls of weed fabric covering the yard right now.
- I measure up the place. There's 5,000 sqft of space where turf is needed. There's 1,500 sqft of carpet. It's remnants, with 4 of the rolls being 13' long and under.
- They can't afford more carpet.
- They insist they have enough. 20 minutes on the phone and I can't convince her even if she cuts back on her expectations of coverage, she can't even cover her front yard. She's in her 70's, btw.
I'm not too much of a dummy - this project is waving red flags like it's the UN. I see that. But no worries. I'm going to price accordingly and then move on to projects that we'll actually sell. But in the off chance that we land it, I want to make sure I have my ass triple-thick covered with padding for all the seaming we'll be doing.
