wink Plant material

I have two new projects that will need a total of 200-300 different types of planting material. I have been buying my material at a wholesale nursery in Burtonville, MD. Would I get better prices by looking at material farther away and having it trucked in?

If your suppliers are having it trucked in, then doing so would remove a middle man. So I'd say yeah - at least investigate it.

A wholesale nursery that is not the grower, is going to add the cost for the shipping, handling, storing, and maintenance of those plants as well as a profit margin.

If you buy directly from the grower you'll pay the grower's price and the cost of shipping.

Given where you are, have you thought of working through a broker? Lowry & Co. is right near you. A broker will have availability lists from literally dozens of growers around the country, which will save you a ton of legwork.
