Plant of the Week 80
Plant of the Week 80 is a fragrant spring flowering shrub, with tremendous foliage throughout the growing season. Picky about siting, it requires good drainage and protection from hot afternoon sun. As Dirr says, don't get too attached because POTW80 might just up and vanish for no good reason....

Here's a few details about the POTW80 that will help you distinguish it from a kissing cousin:
1) POTW80 is semi-evergreen, typically losing its last leaves in my gardens (zone 4b/5a) after sub-zero temperatures in mid-Winter.
2) It is hardy to zone 4, unlike its southern cousin which is reputed hardy only to zone 7.
3) Its leaf margins are cream-colored; its cousin's are yellow.

And the winners are...
Plant of the Week 80 is Daphne x burwoodii 'Carol Mackie'.
Congratulations to Chris Heiler, Greensmith, dan deutekom, Terrre, NCSULandscaper, TrickyDick, HRLand, and Lanelle who all got it exactly right.
Ston Wurks, LandArts, and jshilan knew that POTW80 was a Daphne.
Many member first guessed that POTW80 was Daphne odora 'Variegata'. This plant is very similar in appearance, but is distinguished from 'Carol Mackie' by 1) Not being as cold-hardy, 2) retaining its leaves through the winter, and 3) narrow yellow margins on the leaves, unlike 'Carol Mackie's' wider cream-colored margins.
