Happy, large caliper trees?

I got a great gift this weekend- two tall, full, large-caliper trees for my backyard. They're planted and loving this overcast Sunday, but I was wondering: does anyone have any tips or tricks that they feel help these bigger trees get established faster? One's 2.5", the other is easily 4".

I know there are constant debates about various fertilizers, root stimulators, etc., so I was wondering what everyone uses.

We have had the by far best results with root injecting a liquid organic fertilizer. Beyond that things like having loose, fertile soil for the roots to grow out into (not just in the planting hole) and frequent watering are key. Also don't stake them if you don't have to and if you do get them off after the first season, two at the most.

Obviously depends on what kind of trees and the location for the details.

Yeah, I've got the tree gators on, but yesterday was about the best post-planting day ever- high around 70, overcast and drizzly off and on. I couldn't be happier, especially since they're calling for more rain.

It's been years since I've personally planted anything this big, so I didn't know if there was new voodoo. Sounds like it's all still pretty much the same.

Why not contact Bartlett Tree Company and see what they would recommend.
