Plant of the Week 77

It's been late April since we've had a Plant of the Week on GTX... I don't know about the other plant geeks who post them-- jw, dan, & trees for instance-- but it has been a crazy busy season for us, and I haven't spent much time in gardens wandering round with my camera.

Anyway, today seems like a good day to remember one of the many great things about GTX, and post a new Plant of the Week.

For all the new faces round here since late spring. here's how Plant of the Week works.

1) Someone posts a picture of a notable plant, without revealing its identity.

2) You figure out what the plant is, and

Private message your guess to the thread starter.

3) The thread starter lets you know if you are right or wrong, via private message, until you get it right.

4) After a week or so, the thread starter posts the answer in the thread.

Remember, Don't post your answer in the thread.

Plant of the Week 77 is a die-back vine with profuse yellow flowers in late spring, and sporadic blooms thereafter. It's real ornamental value though come from it seed heads, which look great on an old Crabapple trunk, or on the back of a hat.

Private message me with your guess. Don't post your answer in the thread.

Bonus points if you can name the cultivar.

Good Luck!

Plant of the Week 77 is Clematis tangutica 'Radar Love'.

Congratulations to phototropic1, dan deutekom, Meizinnia and tom who knew the species and cultivar. Hats off to Ax Man and groundwork who knew the species, and Helios and jwholden who both got the genus right.
