There are lots of diffeent mounded septic system designs. What is good on one is not necessarily good on another.
In my area, a raised system is usually the same as any other system used in the area. The only reason it is elevated is because there is a state law that requires the bottom of the system to be more than 5' above the adjusted groundwater elevation (where groundwater elevation can be, corrected to take in account drought or other circumstances). Here they are usually a series of 500 gallon precast concrete leaching chambers or composite infiltrators.
Sometimes there are fields of 2" perforated pvc that can sometimes be pressure dosed.
There are other advanced or innovative systems to reduce nitrogen or pathogens that may be more delicate.
The bottom line is that there are lots of different sstate standards and lots of different ways to meet those standards, so you can't go by what someone else has experienced and assume it is going to be the same.
