I hooked up with a new grower this past year that produced high quality perennials at a reasonable price ($4-$5/gallon) and offered a nice variety, so I put my plans on hold for now.

I do not see any pine bark fines around here anywhere. I may try at lowe's this spring. How does on third sand peat moss and pine bark sound? I probably will order from a place called Green Mountain Transplants they are in Maine. You can order trays with 32 plants or smaller 72 plants per tray. You can have any variety of plants mixed in the tray. It is about 40 bucks for 32 large plugs with shipping. Does it make much difference if you buy the smaller plugs? How long does it take for a Dwarf fountain grass plug to fill a 2 gallon container? I'm guessing a couple years. I was thinking of getting some Hosta's but I thing they take a while to get up to size. What are some fast growing ones?

I've thought about this for a couple of shrubs, but not annuals or perennials.

Gulf Stream Nandina is one of my favorites; a common plant that is sometimes out of stock - but just for short intervals.

I've considered keeping a holding area for about 200 of them.

I'd only grow small plants for hobby, because the cost would really jump if I hired someone to tend the plants, due to handling in smaller volume.

But if your growing what you want streamlines your work, sounds like a good idea even if each unit cost was a bit higher.

I've been thinking of ordering some bareroot shrubs and trees from a place called Musser Forests in northern Indiana. Has any one ordered from them.
