Garden lore has it that the white cultivars of POTW69 are the best butterfly attracters.

Or Monday night, whichever comes last.

Plant of the Week 69 is Butterfly Bush, Buddleia davidii.

Congratulations to prapoza, Ax Man, jon korevec, bcx400, TrickyDick, dan deutekom, Lanelle, Hamons, rivergirl, HardDaysKnight, HRLand, Helios, trees, 4seasons, and Prolawns, who got it right.

POTW69 wasn't much of an identification challenge, but it sure stood out in my observations all season, and especially this fall, as a shrub that just keeps performing, weather and care be damned.

The first butterfly is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. The second is a Black Swallowtail with a damaged wing.

I have noticed a large amount of butterflies around here this year. I suppose it's because of the mild winter we had?
