mulch spreading

Ok recently we have gotten into the mulch business more where we were just basically a lawn service running grass accounts, my question is whats the secret to spreading the mulch and making it so smooth with the dyed mulch . We usually get it very smooth but takes a lot of time. Right now we use rakes and a couple of shop brooms to smooth and tamp just wondering if there was a better way to make smooth??? Any help is appreciated..

sub you mulching jobs to someone with a mulch blower. that is smooth.

otherwise, go back with a leaf blower and gently pop the trigger so the mulch blows out and settles. keep it off the trunks of the trees so it doesn't kill them.

we seem to have little problem finishing our mulch applications to what appears relatively evenly spread.

Yeah. Just rake it out nice and even the first time. Makes me CRAZY when the guys have to go back over it to smooth it out. It takes a little practice but you should be able to rake the mulch out and have everything behind you look perfect. And keep it away from the trunks...that makes me crazy too.
