sod time

Whats the laying rate for 5 guys an hour for sod no prep work included? I need to lay 10,000 sqft and need to figure this out. Can we do it in 10 hours like I've figured? I'm guessing 2 guys can lay a pallet in an hour? Need help guys. Thanks in advance.

depends on experience, we usually price sod at $0.49/ sq ft NO PREP. minumum area of 3000 sq ft.

22.2 pallets should take 4 experienced guys 6 hours to lay. Assuming you have equipment around that will pick up the pallets and shuffle them around.

They will deliver the sod and put it close, but we always seem to need to move a few around.

When laying on a hill I should lay the sod perpendicular to the slope right? I plan to use stakes as well.

I figure 2000 square feet per person per day on an average job. This includes all cutting and cleanup, and usually some access issues. In wide open areas with minimum cuts you can do a lot more than that. It relly helps to have everyone working on one system. If people start freelancing you end up with a million cuts and poor craftsmanship- not to mention it takes a lot longer.

That much sod you should be rolling most of it out in big rolls with a forklift, right? Never done that much sod on pallets but if that's the plan you should be okay with 10 hours.

There are far to many variables to accurately, or even guess to answer your question.

Much more info is needed.

jwholden is on a distinguished road
I timed myself and one other guy laying 2500 square feet last year with the pallets placed within 30' of where the sod was installed. I came up with around 225 square feet an hour including cutting. I install sod but about three times a year and the guy helping was doing it for his second time. We kept the joints tight and I am a perfectionist.
