Bradford Pear dead?

Hi all,

I have a Bradford pear that's about 5 years old (15') and it was subjected to the drought last year (still ongoing) here in north Dallas, TX. When the time came for it to blossom, I saw all of the neighbors Bradford blossom and then sprout leaves however mine barely tried and then instead grew those fuzzy blooms which I presume are supposed to come in the Fall time.

I'd say that my tree is stressed and still realing from last year's sever drought but can I expect it survive? Will it try to blossom again this year?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

That's a handy thing. Too bad I didn't know about them last year :-(

At this point however, I'm concerned that the tree may be sensitive to over-watering. I mean, I have been watering it about once a week, but still no blossoms...

I don't think once a week is enough......try twice a week.......if there was root die back it will need consistent moisture to sprout new roots......if it will sprout new roots.

Is there any leafing out?

Go find a new tree.....Chose a variety other than "Bradford"

Bradfords tend to lose branches, in some cases half or the whole tree due to winds

LandArts is on a distinguished road
If you want another pear "Cleveland Select" / "Chanticleer" would be my choice.

We get a Carolinus (sp?) variety here in the North East.
