Moss in my compost

I have been using compost from my local city for a few years after I got tired of replenishing mulches 2-3 times per year to maintain a desried look.
The compost while not the cleanest does keep a dark rich color while breaking down all year.
The problem I am having is that in certain areas there are clumps of moss growing. I thought it was just because of the wet areas near the pavers that dont drain as well but then I started seeing it in other areas.
I am going to test the compost for pH levels and such but wanted to see if anyone else experienced this. I am afraid of what might happen with the plants if I have to adjust the ph.
These areas are in full sun and really make the beds look like garbage and of course they are in the high traffic areas our yard where we entertain.

The moss spores just happen to be present in the mulch. There is very little you can do preventitive for moss, it will come in at all range of pH levels.

Moss responds to micor climate conditions, growing conditions and spore presence.

We hit most lawns with a liquid iron about a month to three weeks ago, and that does a pretty good number on it.

But it will be back next year.
