too late to hydroseed?
This is my second season in the hydroseeding business. Last year I took a chance and hydroseeded in late November and had good results as a full lawn came up in the spring. The seed froze, as well as my hoses!! It was so cold (light snow) that my hose snapped. I live in Ontario, Canada. Temps now are 40 to 50. I basically have stopped spraying for the season, but the phone calls keep coming. Properties i sprayed 2 weeks ago still havnt germinated and i am used to a 10 day germination period. I understand in colder weather it will take longer. I spoke to a local farmer and he says its still ok to spray ..whatever dosnt germinate this yr will lay dormant till next yr... Will the seed rot? Just wondering how late any of you will hydroseed till..

I have hydroseeded as late here in Zone 8 as Nov 4. Pretty weak germination, but come spring it came on great.
Seed won't rot as long as its not in standing water. We are starting renovations on athletic fields next week.
Seasons are over on most of them and we go in and verticut, aerate real hard, broadcast seed and then top dress with a LOT of sand. It gives us a big jump on the season, some seed germinates, some does not, but comes up real fine in the spring, since the sand warms much faster than regular soil.
We have 8 fields to do locally, and some more out of town so we will be hopping for a couple of weeks , weather permitting.

I don't hydroseed, but I'm doing a sod install next week. That'll be the latest I've put sod down. How late do the rest of you take sod laying?

Hmm, I'm calling for my sod tomorrow to be delivered monday. Hope they're still cuttin'. I'm sure I've seen construction companies lay sod later than this though...

I have layed sod in mid December and it was not a problem (other than trying to unroll the frozen outer rolls on the pallet) Last year a local golf course was also laying acres of sod well into December right over a thin layer of snow and it took extremely well in the spring. As long as they will cut sod you can lay it. I have also done seeding over a light layer of snow and the seed germinated well in the spring.
I will be doing several lawn renovations and seedings this week and I fully expect to see good results in the spring.

Last year we seeded a lawn a week before Christmas. Other than the ground being somwhat frozen (not the topsoil trucked in that day) we were able to seed it and it came up just fine except for a few spots that washed out.

we seed 12 months out of the year.........obviously the seed we do now wont come up until spring, but when it does its beautiful. Just inform the customer that they will have to wait for results, but the seed will be just fine.
