Transplanted maple

I recently removed a laceleaf maple from a job and planted it at my brother-in-law's house. It was in august and very dry here and the leaves dropped within a couple of days. He kept watering it and now it has new leaves popping and it's starting to get colder. What do I need to do to keep this tree alive through the winter?

Not much you can do about the foliage and the upper part of the tree...

If you can just as the season absolutely ends water the ground under it, especialy the root ball....Nice thick mulch. May want to mulch it in a wider circle than normaly would, beyond the root ball.

trees is on a distinguished road
Yeah, what GLAN said...

Also, keep your fingers crossed and be aware that it may not look great and will probably go dormant early next year. Fertilize lightly in the spring and make sure to keep it well irrigated during the shock phase.

Use triple super phospate and get its roots going next year. I wouldn't use anything with to much nitrogen it will stress the tree.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I've had this happen before also but earlier in the year when it's warm. With the temps starting to drop I wondered if it would have an ill effect on th plant.
