Mulch, Landscape canvas, and Grass

I have a previously landscaped yard with the weed control fabric(doesn't work very well) and mulch for a top cover.

I want to put sod in one area of the yard, now broken up with a fence and sidewalk. Obviously the mulch and fabric should come up, but any suggestions on how to tackle this job?

B Parker

If the mulch isn't too terribly weedy, rake it off and rip up the landscape fabric. If it's weedy, rake the mulch as best you can and slice the fabric (with a sharp razor knife) into strips that will pull up more easily than a large piece.

You're gonna tackle it with hands and hard work.

Pile the mulch some where shady and you can compost it down.....or if it is some what fresh.....maybe use it else where......then the fabric will be easier to remove
