Plant of the Week 44
Plant of the Week #44
Ok -- anybody can do plant of the weeks with pics -- but who thinks they can do it just from a description -- pics won't come until Friday! This happens all the time to me -- somebody will hear I am a landscaper orw illse me in my landscapign shirt at the store and say -- hey -- my neighbor has thsi plant -- but I don't know what it -- typically the description is not very good -- but I will try to give you a better one.
POTW44 is part a very large family of plants consiting of dozens of shrubs ranging in size from a few feet to 20 feet. All of the this family of shrubs ahs pink or white flowers in the speing -- although some are more showy than others. I ahve found this family of shrubs to be the most versatile of all the shrubs and have atleast one in every landscape I do.
However, potw44 is my favorite. THe books say it can reach a height of 8 to 10' -- but I cut one down last year that was pushing past 18' with a 6" trunk.
In zone 5 is is semi-evergreesn and profides fantastic texture to any gardena ll year long with dark, thick, textured leaves all year. It will have small white fragrant flowers int he spring, but they are not the mainstay of their attractiveness. As another bonus, the red berries you might find on the
THery are best suited for anyplace in full suns where you need a quick growing shrub. I find they grow about 2' a year in good soil conditions.
Ok - that should be enough tonail this one. You may aske questions if you like -- I will only anser them with yes or no. You will get two points if you answer correctly before the puicture arrives on Friday.

Two questions,
Are the leaves narrow and shiny?
Are they wide and dull?
That should do it for me...
By the way, ya'll are killing this southern boy with these plants from the great white north
