Red Maple Leaf Dots

My neighbor stopped by and gave me this leaf. Its off a maple we planted 2 weeks ago. He's had foliage problems with some other maples he planted 2 years ago, bt the local nursery tells him they were wind burnt Anyways, I don't know what this is and wondered if any of you have seen it or have a good web site. I believe its insect eggs but don't know which. Any ideas?

Your picture came out kind of small but from I would guess that it is either Maple leafroller or it is caused by one of the gall forming mites. A larger picture would help. (my old eyes arn't what they used to be )

That is gall mite. It won't kill the tree but it is unsightly. It can be controlled by spraying.
