Searching for bed ammendent product
In the past we have used a dehydrated cow manure product as part of a bed ammendment process - particularly in perennial beds. We'll also mix it into the soil when preparing beds for annuals.
Yesterday, low and behold our vendor is no longer carrying the product and says their supplier can't get it either. I wish I could remember the name of it.
I'm looking for a sterile organic product which will be free of weed seed and other contaminates.
I saw/heard of a product called "Posie Power" if memory serves me correctly, but I can't locate it. Are there any other products available commercially that might meet this purpose?
Thanks.

We use a sterile mushroom compost. It's used from local mushroom farms. Most weed seeds won't grow in no sunlight so it might have some weed seeds. Our solution to this is to cover it for 7 to 10 days with plastic, that heats it up enough to kill most if not all seeds. I don't know if you have the space at your shop to do this.

I've heard of mushroom compost. I haven't been able to locate any locally though - or at least the folks that do carry it locally who buy it out of southern Ohio have not purchased any this year due to fuel prices. I'll keep looking, there has to be some around here somewhere. Paul, what is the cost per yard in your neck of the woods?

We sometimes get soil from a supplier that has been cut with turkey manure. I don't know if they get the manure in bags or in bulk - I believe it's bagged. Wish I could offer more help w/ regard to suppliers, but it's just a little mom-n-pop shop here that I get the stuff from.

Paul - after doing some research I'm finding that mushroom compost comes from mushroom growers - CA and PA produce more mushrooms than any other state. Here in Ohio we'd have to get mushroom compost in from PA - haven't found anyone locally. You don't perchance hail from Pennsylvania do you?

Cambells Soup, West Chicago Illinois. You can arrange to pick up semi loads at a time.
