Front Yard Revision

We actually installed these trees 7 years ago and the client didn't limb them up once. Too shady for grass to grow, especially on a slope and the other landscapers he talked with all tried to convince him to sod the slope between the trees. Not one tried to sell him a wall.

Not much in the way of planting since he told me he won't care for any of it but still have quite a few assorted hosta and perennials which really can't be seen now.

Stonehenge is on a distinguished road
Is the wall dry laid or mortared?

Ah ha! Sorta hard to tell from the pic.
Concrete base, block wall and synthetic stone facing. Natural stone top.

When you do the footer for such a wall, I assume you have to go below the frost line correct?

Did you hit many tree roots when you dug the footer?

How far under grade did you take the veneer?

Flush or a couple of inches?

Not much of a frost line here in NC, South of Charlotte.
Just hit some small roots, 1" diameter.
Couple of inches under grade with the veneer for the most part.
Also, set our block back a couple of inches to provide bottom stability for the first course of stone.
Yep, just a cheap ( although the client wouldn't think so ) concrete product face.

I guess in an area with frost such as mine you would have to take that below to avoid frost heave. That would be a serious footer for a small wall like that.

Yea, you would have a little extra cost in your footer.
That's where I don't miss New Hampshire!!

New Hampshire is cold? It's kind of like Florida for us...

I've got 4 feet of ice/snow on my front yard and it's -35 celsius with the chill.
