Looks nice - did you do any flaming/thermalizing of the edges on the steps? If so, how'd you go about it?

Nope, because client wanted me to fit this in his budget and I used up all my hours plus some. Also, my laborers were slow on this one. Left them to apply mortar in the joints of a 5' x 4' area + clean-up and it took them 14 man hours.
Customer is happy but I wish I had more $ in it to do a few extra touch-ups.

P-Train is an unknown quantity at this point
Did you do the install over existing concrete steps and porch?

I was thinking of doing something similar to my home but using larger pieces of flgstone.

Fine edge,

Looks like a giant puzzle! I bet the guys piecing that together had a sore noggin by 2:00!

I would love to hear the steps you took to complete a project like that. If you have the time.

P-Train, yea we did install over existing concrete porch / steps and I wish we used larger pieces.
JW, It wasn't so much the noggin as my knees ( even with kneepads ).
Pretty simple, just time consuming, could've used 2 saws since we cut almost all pieces with my wet saw ( averaged 2 cuts per piece ). Next time I think we are going to set them as we cut 'em because some pieces moved, got mixed up or left out ( thanks to no-brain laborers ).
Clean the concrete
Start placing, marking, cutting until most is cut in.
Shoot grade shots for proper pitch, string lines as needed.
Start laying with a Portland cement base.
Once stones are set, we came back and used a dark charcoal S-type mortar for the joints. As they set up, we came back over them with a damp sponge and cleaned up the stone.
We actually waited 2 more days and then installed siding that was removed ( thanks to some of the responses I got on here last month ) & then pressure washed the whole area to remove any haze that was left.
This isn't what we want to do all the time but it was a referral from our stone supplier and the client was so nice he paid me in full before we even had any materials on site.
The only drawback was that I couldn't look forward to any $$$ when the job was complete.
