Do you install or subcontract concrete landscape bed curbing?

Kwik Kerb, Curb Appeal, Custom Curbing, Concrete Edge, Curb Scape, Curb Pros, Curborama..... Ok, I made up the last one. It seems concrete curbing has been invading residential landscapes over the last two years in our market, with new companies cropping up even faster than new landscaping companies (and that's pretty fast!).

Do you include decorative concrete curbing in your design, either installed by you or subcontracted?

It's ugly.

It doesn't fit in the landscape.

Curbs are for streets.

no, refuse to use it......the only guy that was doing it here in town is now out of business because everyone figured out how ugly it truly is.

Haven't seen this product round here but I think a high-quality, durable, effective edging has great market potential. The commo-place Cobra edging, and better quality metal productss aren't perfect.

Concrete-curbing's big drawback to me is inflexibility, it's permanance. Bed-lines need to change enough to make jackhammering out concrete curbing a big hassle.

I'm sure someone skilled could make it invisible enough to make it look nice. The pix in the ads make it look way too obtrusive for my eye.

We either wet set paver brick into the bed lines, or form and pour mow curb in the same color concrete as the other flatwork. Before doing so I do everything short of loosing the job to talk the people out of it, as has been mentioned, it is the ugliest thing ever invented in landscape, it takes work away from manitenance contractors, and when you want to change the bed configuration a simple add on now becomes something you need a demolition license to perform. The machines available don't do anything a few redwood header boards and some concrete stakes can do.

I think it's so ugly. Most front yards are pitched to the street
and when and this application can't comply to level. It looks
ridiculous. Then, the homeowner paints it to match the siding
or whatever and it takes on a hideous form. It seems like
a very retro edging that maybe should have a '67 impala
in the driveway and Aluminum siding. What's wrong with
turf to mulch bedding?

These things are a joke. Someone buys them, plops downa bunch of cash, tries to market it, and then does not get enough business to make and it tries to sell it and it all starts over.

Some made bad mixes, and they just crumbled the first hard frezze.

We form and pour just like Bill's descripition.

It's funny - the first franchise in our area went belly up. Just after they did, the stuff took off. It's everywhere now.

I doubt that stuff will even last as long as advertised. I spoke with one of the manufacturers at the EXPO. It's just straight portland and sand... no agregate at all!

Can't stand the stuff. Three people around here have tried and failed quickly. Paver brick or natural stone edging is all we use.

have you people ever checked out the kwikkerb.org website? i agree there is alot of ugly curbing out , but this curbing is really awesome. The curbing can be made to look like brick, slate and even wood. Don't under estimate this curbing.

The difference is, its not brick, slate, and wood. You can't remove and change the bed configuration without a major ordeal. Its like stamped concrete, you can do it in all the different designs you want, it still does not come close to the real thing. JMO

I'd sell it to go with my synthetic lawns.....would look really sharp and take care of edge issues......only problem is, no one buys my synthetic lawns!

We have a guy that did it around here.......Besides his own house, his neighbor's house, and well, the guy down the street from his neighbors house, I can't say I've ever seen it anywhere else.

Plus, ever see concrete curbing around a yard that is surrounded by nothing but woods.........YUK!.....

Bring out the white stones, the marry's on a half shell, and throw a concrete curb around it.....that would sell.

Yes i install the edging. Do you remove belgium block? Most people plant in the same garden beds year after year with annuals. If they have perrenial gardens why would you be changing them?
