Ground Trades Xchange - a landscaping forum Rules

Anyone age 14 or older is eligible to participate. If you are age 13 or under, you likely have not had the requisite experience or possess the requisite knowledge to make a meaningful contribution to this site. This site is designed for use by professionals in the green industries, but anyone over 13 with an interest is certainly welcome to participate. Landscape contractors, employees of landscape firms, landscape architects, materials manufacturers and suppliers, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, hobbyists, education professionals and those who just have a green thumb are all people who are welcome and can benefit from becoming a member of (Ground Trades Xchange, LLC, “GTX”). For certain categories of members, there are restrictions on your participation that will discussed later.

By registering for membership you affirm that you are over 13 years of age.

To participate you must include a valid email address. Without a valid email address your membership cannot be activated. Having this email address helps us to protect our forums, so that ill-intentioned people cannot anonymously harm our forum community.

Participation is easy! You can read other people’s posts on topics ranging from equipment reviews to disease identification. If you have questions or comments you’d like to add to a discussion, simply enter information in the ‘reply’ field and submit it. If you’d like to start a discussion, click the ‘new thread’ button and away you go! With the easy-to-use bulletin board software we utilize at GTX, you can add links to other sites, pictures and documents (with some restrictions – see below). If you’d like to send information privately to another member, you can do so by using the Personal Messaging service we offer.

Access to the public tier of this community is free. Use it as much as you’d like, as often as you’d like. If you would like access to some of the more advanced features of the site, including additional forums that are only viewable by other members, articles by prominent community members and other industry professionals, equipment reviews conducted by the GTX staff and more, a small annual fee will permit you access to everything GTX has to offer.

Occasionally GTX will need to modify the Terms of Use for the site. GTX reserves the right to make these changes without your prior notice. GTX will send email to it’s membership to alert them to these changes when appropriate.

If you encounter problems with the functioning of the site, including dead links, pages not loading, slow downloads, you are encouraged to contact us at We are best able to serve our membership when they keep us apprised of any problems with the functionality of the site.

Personal Information and Privacy

During the registration you will be asked to create a username (‘nickname’) for yourself. This username is how you will be known throughout the forums. If you are concerned that local competitors may read information you post and gain a competitive advantage against you, you are encouraged to create a nondescript username for yourself.

We collect personal information about you including your email address and we log your IP address for all activity. This information will not be sold or rented to any third party entity. We may occasionally accept email from GTX sponsors that we may forward to our membership, but this will only be occasional.

The community software we employ uses ‘cookies’ to track certain information including read posts and forums, and at your option, to log you into the software automatically, rather than having to type in your username and password each time you visit. In order to protect you and GTX, all email addresses are verified before registration is finalized.

When participating in the forums we expect that you respect the privacy of other members and the community at large. Posting your full name, address and phone number is not against the terms of use, but we would not recommend it. Posting the full name, address or phone number of another member or someone in the global community at large (especially those under 18) would be against the terms of use, and may result in being banned from participating on the forums.

Inappropriate Language and Topics

GTX is a place where people have civilized discussions. It’s expected that people will have disagreements on different issues. It’s even encouraged. But all discussions must maintain a modicum of civility and appropriateness. If your posts contain anything that would be hurtful or discriminatory toward another person or group based on their religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender, sexual preferences, it will be edited and your privileges at GTX may be revoked. If your posts contain rude, vulgar, harassing or libelous language, they may be removed and your privileges revoked.

Further, we will not condone or tolerate posts that:

- Threaten other member(s) with violence or revenge or retribution in any manner, physical or non-physical,

- Threaten other member(s) with financial or any other harm,

- Contain links to sites with topics that include illicit drug use or drug paraphernalia, pornography, exploitation of minors (in any form), illegal activity or it’s incitement,

- Display images or sounds with topics that include illicit drug use or drug paraphernalia, pornography, exploitation of minors (in any form), illegal activity or it’s incitement.

As a general rule, you should behave here as though you were in front of thousands of prospective customers. We at GTX want this to be a place where people feel comfortable and welcomed to discuss any industry issues they have, without fear of being teased or ridiculed (or harmed). If your conduct is in conflict with these goals, we may issue a warning, suspend, or revoke your privileges at GTX.

Signatures, Avatars

Part of being a member at GTX includes personalizing your membership, so that you can get the most out of your experience here, and to have a little fun at the same time. For that we allow members to have a ‘signature’ that will be attached to every post they make. This signature can be fun or serious in nature, it can have links to other sites, or it can be left blank. Once a member has made a specific number of posts they are able to upload an Avatar to our server. An avatar is a small graphic file that can be used to identify you or your interests or your company. This can also be another fun way to express yourself.

With the ability to have signatures and avatars also comes responsibility. The rules that apply for content in posts apply here as well, and there are further restrictions on the contents of your signature or avatar. Our goal with the increased restrictions on avatars and signatures is to ensure that those who pay to advertise at GTX get the full benefit of their advertising, without having to compete against a member who has a link to their competing business in their signature, or information that would lead someone to an advertiser’s competitor. It is through advertisers that we are able to provide this site and the content that we do, and without them this site would cease to be. Therefore, we will take extra steps to ensure our advertisers have a pleasant and successful experience with us. With that in mind:

- You may have a link to your own website(s), but not to sites you do not own or are not directly affiliated with,

- You may not have an image or graphic in your avatar or signature that is visually dominated by a specific tool, material or equipment brand (creating an advertisement for that tool, material or equipment),

- If you are affiliated with a materials or equipment supplier, you may not have a link to your own site, unless you are a sponsor (Sponsorships are inexpensive and can give you great exposure! Inquire at if you’d like to learn more about the fees and benefits of becoming a sponsor),

- Your signature cannot contain reference to your affiliation with a materials or equipment manufacturer or supplier, such as “Call (123)456-7890 for a great deal on skidsteer tires”, or anything else that could lead a member to contact you directly about goods or services your company offers.

There are several methods that can be utilized in advertising on this site; they are inexpensive and cost-effective, putting the advertiser in contact with the decision makers inside green industry companies. As stated above, we are committed to protecting the value our advertisers receive in placing advertising monies with us. Advertisers include individuals or entities placing banner ads, sponsoring forums, or sponsoring other elements of the site. It also includes individuals or entities that are selling equipment in our Marketplace forum.

Advertising in the Marketplace forum is limited to those who are not dealers in the items they sell. Marketplace is a place to sell used equipment that is no longer needed, or new equipment that was purchased and not used. That’s why the fees for this service are so low; it’s intended for the occasional seller, not the professional seller. If you’re a dealer and wish to sell items at GTX, please contact us at to get pricing information.

Solicitation, the uninvited contact of our members for the purpose of promoting or selling non-GTX goods or services, is prohibited. This includes both non-advertising and advertising members who have services or products they wish to promote to the members of GTX. Sent either via Private Message on our servers, or through email contact outside of our servers, this solicitation will be treated as Spam and the offending information will be forwarded to the Federal Trade Commission for prosecution under the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. If you are an advertising member and would like to make email contact with the general membership, contact GTX management.

While we use this authority as little as possible, we reserve the right to terminate membership of any member, at any time, for any reason. No consideration will be given for any monies paid to GTX for services not rendered or partially rendered.

The failure of GTX to enforce any right accruing under this agreement shall not be construed as a waiver of a subsequent right of GTX to enforce the same or any other right, term or condition.

This agreement is to be interpreted and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of Wisconsin, USA.

Your registration is an acceptance of these terms.
