I think my season ended today. I was able to lay the bricks yesterday, but by the end of the day you could walk in the sand and not leave prints. My wet saw table wheels froze up, I was sliding the table on ice on the rails!
Today during cleanup/grading, there was 6" of frost in my spoils pile. I was able to get some soft stuff underneath that we could work and make things look presentable. Fortunately the yard we were working in was pretty much a moonscape, so even though it wasn't perfect, the area we worked was much better than it's surroundings!
When I anticipate frost, or need to work a job during the cold snap, I'll cover the work area with concrete blankets as Paul mentioned. The best way to get rid of frost is to not let it set in in the first place. This was the only way we could finish this job. I covered both the work are and the materials piles, both remained workable even though overnight temps were in the teens.
If you don't have concrete blankets, you can rig up a similar type of cover using Bisqueen and hay. Cover the area to be protected with a layer of Bisqueen, then cover that with fluffed up hay. Next lay another sheet of Bisqueen and put rocks on the edges to keep from blowing. It will have the same effect as blankets.
