My policy, as written in the manual, is no smoking in the trucks, on the job site, except in a designated smoking area, no smoking in the shop or while operating company equipment. Reasons: I can't stand the smell in the trucks, & that is what I drive to & from work in. It is a safety hazard on the job: just think about all the gasoline we carry around. We actually set a mulch bed on fire with dropped ashes during the drought a few years ago. Problem is in the enforcement, & how far to we push it, given the lack of available bodies. We have a written policy restricting it, & try to deal with it as fairly as possible.
