Payroll service?

I have called about payroll services several times in the past and can't get past the $25 a week charge for two employees. I think that this is one of the times when more employees reduces the cost, per employee.

As I'm sitting here working on my Quartarlies, and they are on the verge of becoming airborne, I am thinking about this alternative once again. Do any smaller operations use a payroll service out there?

Still working on the quarterly stuff, huh? Cutting it pretty close!!

I handle payroll using quickbooks 90% of the time, my wife handles it the other 10%. My wife handles all the quarterly stuff, because I get too angry having to cut extra checks to the gov't.

I don't use the QB payroll service, but processing checks for 4 guys is pretty easy, and usually doesn't take more than 20-30 minutes per pay period (I pay every two weeks).

I think that's the way to go, pay bi-weekly, I don't use the qb payroll service neither like stone said it it takes so little time is not worht it, mine takes even less because I have a spread sheet in excel, I put the hours and does the math for me, I check it once in a while to make sure the percentages are correct, my accountant does my quaterly report so she makes sure I did it correct.

We use QB to do payroll. It's done in house. We have to write checks each week, there are too many additions for us to send out. As far as the IRS, state, and union they each get a check every week. Makes it easy to to finish Quarterlies.

I pay a part time bookeeper to subcontract. She does it on Quickbooks. she also does the quarterlies, pays all the bills, reconciles deposits, advises me on big purchases, and more. It costs about $50/week for 6 employees. We meet at the coffeshop once a week and exchange papers. It takes 10 minutes. If she quadrupled her price it would still be worth it.

I have been using quickbooks for the past 8 years and love it. However, the quarterlies are boring repitition to me. I would love to find a way for someone else to do it so I can spend more time at GTX.

I never considered payroll every two weeks. It seems to me the guys that work for us live week to week and would seek other employment if they didn't get a weekly check.

While discussing quickbooks, I customized some of the invoices and proposals and can put together a very professional proposal and invoice for my clients. Funny, but even with all the glitter they still just look at the bottom line.

LOL!

I've done the same thing and never has anyone ever said "Wow, what a professional looking invoice / estimate!"....except for my wife.

we have used a payroll service for years and would never go back to in house-to many headaches. we are charged a per check charge around $27 per check but for 24 full time employees its well worth it.

Sorry for $16K a year (if you pay every 2 weeks) I could hire a part time accountant and do more than just process pay checks and file forms.

Vince - is that correct? $27 per check? That seems like a typo to me. Or maybe that per check charge includes other stuff like quarterly filings or something.

Yea i know after i re read my post the correct answer should have been $27 for payroll a week total not per check, it's below .50 per check +postage and stuff. sorry for the confusion. so it cost us under $1500.00 a year which is well worth it.

I was just about to make you an offer to do your payroll for $20 per check.
