GPS in trucks or mowers

Does anyone use GPS in their trucks or equipment? I am interested in tracking my guys movements. If you do use it, what service and how much does it cost?

I use it in my crew's truck. It was about $500 to get set up and then around $20/month. Completely ended unauthorized use and I print a weekly report to generate the guys payroll. I don't recall the name of the company offhand.

GPS? - That's a great way to flush employee moral down the toilet....Why not save $499.00 and just tie them to the mower with a rope.....

Nope, it actually solved an employee morale problem. Many insurance companies offer a discount for tracker-equipped vehicles, enough to offset the monthly cost.

I have some type of gps but it's not a fee based.
For me it wasn't much about tracking employees or so but rather help me remember where were we during the week in case I didn't write down.
But at the same time it help me see that I could be more efficient on my mowing routes.

My lead guy went through a hard patch last summer. Started fibbing to me about time and truck usage. I didn't fire him for his transgressions so he quit. That's when I put the GPS in his truck. Two weeks later he came back

Tracking makes the crew leader think about time, route and speed. When lunch breaks are tracked social pressure gets applied to the slow lunch eater. My guys usually take 30 minutes now because they'd rather get paid. I don't have to waste the leader's time making phone calls to find out where he is and I can check route to see if they've picked up materials. If the truck is ever stolen we can send the police to get it. We all see it as a useful tool.
