Holy _ _ _ _!

I made a call today about renting a porto-let for a long term job. I figured it was going to cost a pretty penny for the service.

The qoute came back at $89 for a month plus a $20 fee for drop off and pickup and the price includes cleaning once a week. That price was a pleasant surprise!

It makes me think if we should be renting a porto-let for more jobs. There must be a cost benefit of not driving off the jobsite and wasting time and gas to go to the facilities. There is probably a productivity benefit of knowing that if you need to go you can and you don't have to hold it for an hour until lunch time.

Have any members used porto-lets on a job? How did it work out? Were your clients o.k. with it?

that reminds me of the price I pay for the dumpster. Its 3 yards and they charge $175 a month for once a week pickup. If you do the math, the dump charges $80 a ton. Between the dump charges and the cost of loading, paying a driver, paying for gas, and owning a truck, you could never come close to that price and dispose of waste yourself.

I don't get how they do it. And for $89 a month, I can't see how they can send a driver in a diesel guzzling cdl truck to a house 4 times a month AND get rid of the *&%$!

The waste disposal industry really, really baffles me!

Yeah, JW, we now get a portolet on any job that will last more than a day, and leave one full time on a job where we do a full day's work once a week. It is affordable, and definitely does pay for itself in time saved.

Someone once posted-must have been Dale Wiley- that he makes money on porta-rentals by billing them out as a line item, for more than the rental charge. We don't do that, but we do, of course, cover the cost in the price.

Clients don't mind, unless you forget to have it picked up for weeks after the job is finished!

Damn, I didn't realize it was so cheap. I can't stand that when one guy has to go and suddenly its a break time 20 mins after they just ate lunch. The multi day jobs I just roll my eyes and multiply 2-3 guys two times an hour a day. Ugh.

I actually was quite suprized as well, just having priced one for a job I'm going to do that is a good 8 miles to the nearest gas station. $75 for the week, delivered and picked up and serviced once. It will be the first time I've done it, but at the cost, definitely not the last. Because I usually run such a small crew, me and occasionally my husband, homeowners frequently offer me to use their facilities, but I've never done that. Not comfortable, and I'm usually too dirty!

But this job, I'll have a crew, and subs as well, so I think it will more than pay for itself in time saved, much less gas wasted. Figure two bathroom runs a day, 30 minutes total lost, plus a gallon of gas per trip?

What other obvious things such as this am I missing?
