You used to take guys to the toilet?

Only in emergencies would we do that. Otherwise, it's expected to show some intestinal fortitude.

#1 is a different story, though.

Since we're talking about this, I thought I'd share an interesting thing I discovered about diet and the need to use the bathroom. When I was young I could go all day without a bathroom trip without a problem. As I got older it seemed like that ability was dimished, to the point where the last 5 or 6 seasons, if I ate anything for lunch I'd need to find a bathroom shortly thereafter or pay a severe price.

I wouldn't eat breakfast, and would maybe eat a granola bar at some point in the day. I'd eat like a horse when I got home in the evening to make up for it.

This year, however, I did something counterintuitive - I started eating a lot during the day. I'd have a banana and some toast before work, and even on my way to the shop I'd start eating my lunch, which this year consisted of two PB&J's, a big salad (w/ meat, cheese, veggies), raisins, an apple, a banana and that granola bar. And maybe a soda.

The unexpected result was, I didn't need to leave the site to find a bathroom during the day. Didn't have the need.

And I have no idea why. I'm sure there's some complicated mechanisms at work that made this happen, but I don't know what they were. I just know it worked.

So if you're like me, getting longer in the tooth and not able to set as good an example about bathroom breaks as you used to, give this a try. Lots of good, healthy food through the day.

Jeff,
Does this mean that you are eating less in the evening after work? If so, that might be your answer.

I do the same thing Jeff. No breakfast or lunch for that reason.
However there has to be understanding if someone has to leave for that reason,
discomfort or a loos stool.

I don't question it. If ya gotta go, ya gotta go. I take washroom breaks as much or more than any of the other guys working with me (except my dad who seem to have to go all the time), so I can't complain if the employees have to go.

It's bad for you to hold it. You'll pay for it later in life. The nice thing about maintenance is you aren't stuck at one location for too long and you can usually hang on until the drive to the next site.

Lanelle - That could be.

HDK - You might want to give it a try - it takes some courage the first couple days (not knowing what might happen), but it seemed to work itself out pretty quick.

Yes it was quite crazy really, the foreman being the only friver on one team had to stop what he was doing and take one guy to the local public toilet....then another later...so much time wasted/ My husband grumbled quite a bit about intestinal control cos he seems to have it, but that feel on deaf ears, and perhaps thats a bit too much to ask. For me I go when I go....so thats why we ended up with a portaloo, and here its the law anyway...I think its anything over 5 then full toilet and washing facilities need to be provided.
