Nebraska is on a distinguished road
Here's a recent email from a multi-property commercial client we do maintenance for.....

........ first email:
Hey you!

What's up with one of your lawn care guys flooding our community center? The staff said the guy when in and clogged up the toilet when it flushed it flooded all over the place.

.......second email after talking to her

Just to give you more crap - literally....

The maint guy called me to tell me he has NEVER seen a mess that bad - corny s$%# everywhere. He said it looked like the guy ate like 7 ears of corn and our building REEKS!! Literally s#@! ALL over the floor.

So discounted lawn mowing this week? That guy is banned from our toilets!

(her happy face from the email)

........

They happened to have a video camera that showed my guy going into the restroom.....but after he left there were four or five more guys in the restroom to the point that they discovered the "issue".

All I had the crew leader do is ask the guy if he had eaten corn in the recent days.... He said, "no, why?"

....I'm seriously putting an addendum to the handbook that states that we are not to use clients restrooms...

The client was really level headed regarding the entire situation. I could only just imagine what it would be like with someone who isn't so level headed.

Or if you had to deal directly with the maintenance guy...

I might be a little strange in this area, but I'll tell my philosophy..

I'll never go in anyone's bathroom that can identify me with the company I work for. Nor will I throw anything into their trashcans. I will pick up something off the ground at a "clean client's" place & put it in my trash in the truck. Not in their trash. I never want anyone at a business to remember me at the restroom or trashcan.

My reasons are simple. Business is cutthroat. It only takes one incident to lose a customer forever. Maybe you don't lose them at the time. maybe it comes later at bid time, maybe the client doesn't even remember the incident, But your companies impression got altered, even slightly can hurt.

Please note :

I am not a landscaper, nor do I play one on TV

P.S. You are right, I do need therapy

I can see eating 7 ears of fresh corn but corn is nowhere near ready in Nebraska! Why would anyone want to eat that much re-thawed corn?

That is a disgustingly funny story.

This morning the guy swears it wasn't him as he was signing off on the memo....."I watched it go down"

How many kernals does the typical ear of corn have?

He claims to not really like corn too much....hmmm.....who doesn't like corn? Corn's the most non-offensive vegetable out there.

If he burst out laughing like the rest of us when you told him, then likely it wasn't him.

funny story

They can't put the blame on your guy.

You said they have a video showing up to 5 other guys using the bathroom after your guy left.

I wouldn't make any kind of policy regarding bathrooms.

It was funny...in how she put her spin on it and handled it. She has a very good sense of humor and is fun to talk to all the time...... I need more like her!
