Mission statement
Do you have a company mission statement?
If yes, please share.
This was the best I could do.
It is our company mission to enthusiastically care for our clients by crafting high-quality landscapes providing means for us to prosper.

I don't like the mention of you prospering and using mission in the statement. Also Our company?
How about something like...
Our main goal at "Landscape Designs Unlimited" is to
care for our clients by crafting high- quality landscapes
with the utmost enthusiasm and reliability!

It occurred to me that I'm (and my future staff) are in this for more than the joy of working our tails off. I often lose sight of the reason I am in business and my staff is with me - we want to make money doing something we enjoy. How do we do that, by 'enthusiastically caring for our clients and crafting high-quality landscapes'.

Did I insult you somehow JW? I was just trying to help and
suggest that the fact that you prosper might be
inappropriate in a mission statement. I used your words
and tried to phrase them for your benefit. I thought you
felt uneasy with what you had by using th se faces.

HDK,
No offense taken. I am uneasy about mission statements, not your comments. I am confused as to whether a mission statement is to be viewed by clients or hung on the wall inside the shop and office. I thought the tag line below the company name was for clients, and the mission statement was for company personnel to explain 'Why are we here?'.

That makes me feel better. My understanding is they are for
mostly websites, but I could be wrong.

I've always understood mission statements to be more of an internal thing.
Two local economic heroes here built two very large insurance companies, and their mission statement at each company was very simple, and plastered everywhere: "Make money and have fun!"
Externally they pushed "ETDBW" - Easy To Do Business With.
I can't say that we have one.

A mission statement should be a simple declaration, stating the purpose of the orgainzation. Ideally it is concieved by the owner (or collaborated on with key employees) and the crew is trained on that organizing principle. If they know what their company is about they are empowered to make decisions in your absence that will be consistent with your motive for being in business.
If you are in business to make money, I think that should be said. If you are in business to provide superior service, say so. If I am working on your job and you are not around and the customer asks me to take care of one more thing, not included in the proposal, then I know to say "no problem" (I am thinking: provide great service) "let me get a change order" (I am thinking: got to make money on everything we do)
Don't confuse a company tag line with a mission statement. A tag line is marketing, a mission statement is the first page of the busniess plan.
Now I should get busy writing my mission statement...

go to the Husqvarna web sight and look at there page. Our mission is , to be and do our best
We also have the purpose, vision, promise, values all in 9 lines. very powerful stuff. needs to be in front of employees and customers
this list is what we do. every day. we just use landscaping as our medium. let me know what you think about the husky list.

Hey -- I created a new website and really researched mission statements and created this:
Dedicated to solving landscape problems with functional, maintainable, and ecologically-minded practices, while creating the most unique and beautiful landscapes in our marketplace! We pledge to design landscapes capturing and enhancing nature’s inherent beauty. We wish to harness these principles and practices to create an ethical and successful business.
Craig R. Stark, Owner
I don't know if this helps, but I think you can have your mission statement be for internal and external use. Employees like knowing what they do means something, and customers like to know that you have really thought about why you are in business, and that it wasn't just on accident!

Mission Ststement;
It's about "clarity of vision" and a "commitment" to that vision. The best mission statement I've ever seen is Coca Cola---"Put a coke within reach of every human being on the planet." Wow! that's powerful, short, succinct, dyanmic and very clear in what they are trying to achieve.
I think most MS's are hooey, wordy, overthought, and outdated. Mine; "To Create Great Work" and it is on just about everything I put out.

what is great work? -- that doesn't mean the same thing to different people. maybe it works fine for you -- but you can't say that is original.

Wow great reading
Mission statements cover alot of ground........they can be company internal for employees and that mission statement will carry one message.........where as a mission statement to entice prospective customers is another message, though that message kinda mirrors the company internal mission statement.
I had a mission statement years ago..........."Makes lots of money"
My mission statement today is......."Make enough to pay the bills"
LOL.....
OK.......so maybe I need to revise my current statement? I have a feeling it should be more reader friendly.....LOL

Ecoscapes-I feel no need to "define" anything in my mission statement, the definition is inherent, and it's short and clean.
As to original . . . well, I don't know how many other places I've seen it. Besides i'm not trying to be original with this statement, I'm trying to create great work.

We fix a lot of others' work....
"Making Fredericton beautiful, one house at a time."
the darker side of that is,
"Fixing Fredericton, one house at a time."
(it's a bit impudent...)
