Check this out - not sure how may members we have from Madison, WI. Just another example of people with too much time on their hands.

Perhaps you heard the city of Madison is about to pass a mandatory sick leave ordinance. This means that once a person works more than 12 hours per week for an employer and has worked for 60 days they are eligible for one hour of sick pay for every 30 hours they work in the city limits of Madison.

This means snow plow companies, landscape firms, and lawn maintenance companies will have to track how many hours an associate works in the city limits of Madison. Once they work 30 hours they will qualify for one hour of paid sick leave.

So if a person worked full time for an entire year in that city, they would qualify for approximately 8 sick days? I can see that the bookeeping could be a nightmare for local contractors if there was strict enforcement. Actually, that isn't a huge amount of time, especially if they can't accrue it over several years.

I don't have the specifics in front of me, but the MTO (Ministry of Transportation) here in Ontario requires that drivers take a 24hr break if they're in the truck (read:snowplow) for 12hrs straight.

So, technically every company with employees needs backup drivers for each truck when a big storm hits that requires more than 12hrs of plowing and/or back-to-back shifts. How many companies do you think follow that to a "T"?...
