Telephone Scam?
The past 2 days I've gotten phone calls at lunch time from a woman claiming to represent a Lawn & Landscape Listing Service. I guess it's a directory of some sort for listing your business. I thought it might be associated with Lawn & Landscape Magazine, but I'm not certain.
She starts out by verifying my business information, innocent enough, but then explains about a 30 day free trial period of a premium listing which costs $49.95 (why is it always that number?) a month. She wants to offer me the free trial. I told her only if it weren't one of those deal where if you don't cancel, you get billed.
At this point I hadn't given her any information regarding payment such as credit card info or such, so I felt I was safe. Next she informed me she was recording our conversation and that I should just answer yes or no to her questions, to verify my listing would be correct. I told her we just went through that, but she said we needed to do it again.
She asked name, address, position, etc. but then she asked if I was over 18 years old. Eyebrows went up on that one. Next question was to learn if I was authorized to approve charges to my phone bill. TWEEEEEEEET!!!! Flag on the play!! I asked her to repeat that, I didn't hear it wrong.
I told her I didn't like where this conversation was headed, then told her it was over and hung up. This was yesterday. She made a second attempt today, again at lunchtime and I told her she was wasting her time and mine and not to call anymore, then I hung up on her. 30 seconds later she had the (insert expletive here) to call back, pleading with me to hear her out. I really ripped her this time, I have very little patience for phone solicitors to start with, let alone persistent ones.
Maybe I jumped to conclusions, but I have no need for additional listings in a service I know nothing about, plus her inquiries seemed to be heading to a sneaky method of billing me for a service I hadn't requested. It's too bad I've become so cynical, but I arrive home to at least one call a day where the other person is trying to part me from my money!!
Has anyone else had this phone call?

I guess this is one of those pleasures I get from not having my biz line forwarded to my cell phone. I always forget how many solicitors call me daily until it's the off-season and I'm there to answer the phone all day. Mumma mia!
But for your particular thing, no I haven't had the pleasure.

Maybe I've talked to her twice, too. Some kind of accent, and when you ask a question, she just repeats the line "But this is a service you already have"...I told her to never call here again after she could not satisfactorily answer my questions, and wasted too much time.

If you are on the national no call list ,she has no business calling you and tell the next call will be reported. The no call list has reduced my solicitation calls by 90%.

That's her spiderlily!!!
I had trouble understanding her to begin with and my radio was going off at the same time. She really torqued me off with the return calls!
justgardens, I'm on both the State and National "Do not call" lists, it doesn't seem to help a lot.

She called me too. She wasn't pleased when I shut her down. I didn't give it much thought then, but I think her phone number appeared on the caller ID of my cell phone- which means she called it directly. If she calls again I'll post her number, and we can plot some sort of revenge...

She uses a computer to do her dialing, when I picked up she wasn't there on both occasions, and finally answered after the 3rd "Hello?" If anyone does come up with her number, please post it, maybe we can all get her shut down!
