This is a thinly disguised attempt at asking how old you are. There's a thread currently running on years experience, I thought it would be interesting to learn the average age of the business owners here. Just vote on the poll if you prefer to remain anonymous, or feel free to comment.

You really want to know how old we are.......................?????????

I'm 50 probably one of the older ones here.............

It shows my mind is slipping..........................

I don't respond on the plant quizzes...................

I forget all the little tricks that we use on jobs to make them more profitable......................... It's not that we don't use them it I just forget that we use them............................................

I enjoy reading all the post here about pond building, stone work, softscape, hardscape, and business.

35 going on 100... Not in the wisdom dept, just the broken-down body dept.

The broken down body part is why I posted this thread. I'm 44 now and have started to notice myself slowing down a bit. Just two years ago, I'd have put myself up against anyone 20 years younger and run circles around them. My joints are starting to creak, and that makes me wonder just how long I can stay in this business.

I was just curious how many were in my age bracket. Seems like a few anyway.....

It's just making a lifestyle change, but in business.

At some point in life you have to decide whether you want to run the shovel or run the crew. I picked running a crew many moons ago. For me it's paid off.............

When I was 30 I thought I never would get old
When I turned 45 I started slowing down, joints started creaking and I realized one day I will get old.
At 50 I let the young bucks do most of the heavy and hard physical work. I also call for more breaks than I used to.

I'm 33 and enjoy a hard days work as the rest, but never thought it was macho to injure myself. I've had my own business for 10 years and have just begun to realize that if I don't do something the guys will figure out they should (sometimes a gentle nudge is needed).

I went to a driving range with a freind this week, for the first time in about three years, and quickly realized that my flexibility isn't what it was when I was 20. How do those goes on the senior tour do it?

1954 Model here. The body is banged up some........ the frames twisted in places......the engines hard to start sometimes........ the headlights seem to be getting dimmer every day.... and I lost track of the mileage a long time ago.
But hey thats OK cause after you reach fifty you relize that every day above ground is a good day.

You guys are gonna make me do the math?!

Ah, uhm, 36, I think...

Physically, I'm still kickin' and keepin' up with the boys (more like setting the pace), but had Lyme disease last Summer and still feel like it took some wind out of my sails...

I think Paul's got the right idea...let's get this party started!!!
